Art from local illustrators, gifts from homegrown brands, unmatched customisation, and speedy delivery to any Hong Kong doorstep — it’s no wonder we can’t stop sending out greeting cards from Roksaan.
The Lion Rock Press is a Team Sassy favourite, best known to us for its tongue-in-cheek Hong Kong-inspired greeting cards. The local brand specialises in premium gifts, books and stationery — and has just launched a brand-new platform, Roksaan, that it promises will change the face of greeting cards in Asia.
I love cards, writing out heartfelt long letters sprinkled with references to inside jokes and featuring plenty of memes. Will Roksaan hold up?
What Is Roksaan?
Head to this website to customise cards and have them printed and sent directly to your own or a recipient’s doorstep — inside and outside of Hong Kong.
Roksaan is speedy and efficient, giving you the convenience of sending cards from anywhere, anytime, instead of being constricted to a store’s opening hours and having to locate and queue at a post office.
And we love how eco-friendly it is! I love a physical greeting card as a beautiful keepsake (I have a bag full of cards that date back to 1999 and I love to paste them into scrapbooks and put them up on walls), but there’s no denying the paper waste that comes with printing in mass, especially during the holidays. Roksaan’s cards are printed on demand — meaning no more wasted stock sitting on shelves.
Team Sassy Tried & Tested
When you land on Roksaan’s homepage, you’re immediately greeted (see what we did there) by gorgeous cards and gifts created by talent and businesses that each have a connection with the place we call home — Hong Kong. It’s a community where local artists and creators really shine.
While there are plenty of non-Hong Kong-inspired elements here, it was the city-inspired motifs that immediately caught my eye: dim sum, stinky tofu and egg tarts, trams and ferries, mahjong tiles, blue and white Chinese porcelain vases and more. No dated, generic pieces here! And artists are paid a royalty for each card design sold on the platform.
The user interface is straightforward, with pop-up messages to guide you through the process if you’re new to the site. There’s an option to create an account but you can keep checking out as a guest without any hassle. Browse by occasion, recipient and artist. Illustrators include The Lion Rock Press, of course, Sophia Hotung, Crafty Bitch, studio Chanpei and more. The range here is lovely; I’m no longer restricted to what’s immediately in stock at a physical store (a regular problem for me!).
Take it a step further when you customise the text in front and upload your images. Continue the bespoke feel when you add your personalised message inside, placed to your liking with a choice of font, font size, alignment and colour.
I had a little too much fun, adding a photo of my husband and me to a jar of XO sauce on one card and changing the greeting in front of another to “Hey Bestie!”. I sent a card about roller skating to my friend (we both have weak knees and can barely be trusted to walk uphill, let alone on wheels), and an evening tram to another friend, putting her name right on the old-school vehicle on the front of the greeting card.
There’s also an option to add a gift from a Hong Kong brand, like mahjong tile-shaped pralines and crispy chilli oil from names like Conspiracy Chocolate and A Spark of Madness along with our favourite products from The Lion Rock Press (gifts are only available for delivery within Hong Kong!).
The Lion Rock Press prides itself on offering a beautiful alternative to generic, overpriced cards, so you can expect this new platform to honour those goals. A standard card is only $59, which includes any customised text and images (if you’d like) on the front, your personalised message inside, and local delivery (all cards sent to HK addresses are delivered via HK post at no extra cost). A steal! Order before midnight HKT for next working day dispatch — it’s got the Sassy seal of approval!
Cards are also available for delivery anywhere in the world! You create and pay, Roksaan prints and sends.
Sassy Tip: Get organised and schedule delivery of your cards ahead of upcoming occasions! And set handy “Reminders” to ensure you never miss an important date again.
Use the code SASSY at checkout to get $20 off each greeting card. Valid until Thursday, 29 February, 2024. Please note that this offer is to be applied to the purchase of greeting cards only and must not be used to discount a standalone gift purchase.
