Team Sassy spills the tea on the benefits of a good cuppa…

While we all crave a morning coffee, knowing the long-term cost to our health and wallet tends to leave us feeling guilty. Tea, on the other hand, is not quite as costly (especially if you brew it yourself!), and each type comes with its own set of health benefits and delightful flavour profile! As a brand with 60 years’ experience, Chinese Tea Gallery’s premium brews are proudly served in traditional restaurants, bubble tea shops and hotels throughout the city, and thanks to its online shop, you can enjoy the brand’s high-quality teas in the comfort of your own home!

We at Sassy are a team of avid tea drinkers, so browsing through the endless options online made us feel like kids at a candy store. Whether you like to drink tea to relax, ease digestion, cool down on a hot summer’s day or cosy up on cold winter nights – or even to bake with! – read on to find out the team’s favourite picks…

Chinese Tea Gallery, Hong Kong, Sassy Tries: bespoke tea

Grace – Bespoke Brews

For me, tea has always been associated with health. If I had an upset stomach, period pain or was feeling a little stressed, tea would be the simple solution. I find it fascinating to learn about different types of teas and their many health benefits, so I was especially curious to try out Chinese Tea Gallery’s Bespoke Brews, which blend some rarer teas that I had not tried before. The smooth and silky Prestige Oriental Beauty blend has a delicate honey aroma and is recommended for its calming properties, while the robust Sun Moon Lake Ruby Black blend boasts an intense fruity fragrance is said to be good for digestion.

Ira – Tea-riffic Tins

Tea can be a great energy booster, but I prefer drinking it to relax. Out of the Tea-riffic Tins available, the Golden Buckwheat stood out to me as a zero caffeine and sugar-free option (the Shizuoka Hojicha is a nice low-caffeine option too). It is also said to lower blood pressure and boost your immune system among other benefits. Not only is it good for you, but it tastes delicious too – robust in flavour with a nutty roasted rice aroma. I like that I’m able to indulge in a cup or two throughout the day without it affecting my sleep, plus you can brew it hot or cold so you can enjoy it all year round!

Chinese Tea Gallery, Hong Kong, Sassy Tries: cold brew set, cold brew tea

Emily’s Pick – Cold Brew Set

I grew up drinking a lot of hot tea with my family at mealtimes, but as an adult I like to enjoy a nice, refreshing cold brew, especially during Hong Kong’s unbearable summer months. There are so many options available, from sugar-free Peach Oolong and Lychee Rose (which give off a sweet, fruity scent), to more classic teas like Peppermint and Earl Grey. I also love the wine bottle-shaped Cold Brew Filter-In Bottle that you can purchase from the site. As a mum of two toddlers, I love being able to brew a bigger batch that I can enjoy over a couple of days. It also makes a nice table centrepiece when I’m having friends over for tea.

Chinese Tea Gallery, Hong Kong, Sassy Tries: Matcha Cookies

Nicole’s Pick – Tea Powder

I was immediately drawn to the tea powders available on the site as they’re not something you often find in shops. When I’m at a cafe, my drink of choice is almost always a hojicha or matcha latte. With powdered tea you can instantly make a delicious latte at home just by adding hot water and a splash of milk – and a little goes a long way! They’re also fantastic for baking – you can easily incorporate your favourite tea powder into a cake or cookie recipe for a delicious tea time snack. I made a batch of matcha shortbread cookies to take to work and they were a hit with the team.

We like to think tea is the first step to a healthy lifestyle. Though not a cure-all or substitute for medical treatment, a simple cuppa is an easy way to treat your body and sooth your system.

Whatever type of tea consumer you may be, you’re bound to find something to suit your taste and lifestyle! And if you’re not much of a tea drinker yourself, we’re sure you’ve got friends who are, so keep Chinese Tea Gallery in mind for upcoming birthdays and Christmas time for a thoughtful gift.
