We’ve finally made it through January and plan on doing some much-needed TV bingeing after the CNY break. And thankfully there’s no shortage of new releases to tempt us, so grab the popcorn and get comfy on that sofa! Here’s our pick of what to watch this month.
Airs on: Friday, 1 February
Need to whet your appetite before the final season of Game of Thrones comes out? Nightflyers is just the show for you. Adapted from a George R.R. Martin novella, this series follows a group of scientists and a powerful telepath as they venture into the void aboard a mysterious spaceship in the hopes of saving humanity.
Airs on: Saturday, 2 February
Russian Doll follows software engineer Nadia Vulvokov, who keeps on reliving her 36th birthday party in a continuous time loop (where she repeatedly dies and wakes up the next day unharmed). Touted as “TV’s answer to Groundhog Day”, this is one binge watch not to miss this month.
Airs on: Saturday, 2 February
The queens are holding nothing back on this season of RuPaul’s Drag Race: All Stars. Catch fan faves like Naomi Smalls, Manila Luzon and Trinity the Tuck as they slay the runway, girl! And as if this wasn’t enough Netflix has added all nine seasons of RPDR (as well as the previous three seasons of All Stars) to cater to all your drag race needs.
Airs on: Friday, 8 February
With Oscar-winning director Steven Soderbergh at the helm, High Flying Bird is a must-watch this month. This drama follows a sports agent (played by Andre Holland), who attempts to navigate deliberations between the NBA and its players in the midst of a tense situation that brings the future of the game into question.
Airs on: Sunday, 10 February
We love the hysterically funny and criminally charming Hasan Minhaj (have you seen his collab with Marie Kondo yet?) so we’re waiting with bated breath for Volume 2 of Patriot Act to hit Netflix. The Daily Show alum returns to deliver even more commentary on the social, political and cultural happenings of the world, and we’re here for it.
Airs on: Thursday, 14 February
Perfectly timed for a Valentine’s Day binge, Dating Around follows one single person on five blind dates to find out just what it takes to get a coveted second date. Whether you’re all loved up or flying solo, we don’t doubt that this will be one amusing show to watch this month.
Airs on: Thursday, 14 February
Based on the immensely popular podcast, Dirty John tells the story of businesswoman Debra Newell’s life, which unravels when she falls prey to con man John Meehan’s lies and manipulation. It really will leave you thinking twice about how much you truly know about the people around you.
Airs on: Thursday, 28 February
Have you ever wondered what life would be like if you woke up as the star in your own romantic comedy? Rebel Wilson stars as the “cynical young woman who doesn’t believe in love”, accompanied by the likes of Priyanka Chopra, Adam Devine and Liam Hemsworth. We’re not sure it’ll be winning any Oscars, but we’ll definitely be watching it for laughs with our girlfriends.
Airs on: Thursday, 28 February
Newt Scamander has finally made it onto Netflix! Step back into the wizarding world of Harry Potter with the first of the Fantastic Beasts trilogy this month. We love Eddie Redmayne’s take on the slightly awkward (but still lovable) Scamander, so you know we have this one queued up and ready to go.
