For our latest Sassy Social, we spent the afternoon exploring Whampoa and sampling the five key flavours of Cantonese cuisine.
There are two things that unite everyone at Team Sassy – our love of our city and our obsession with trying new food – so it’s perhaps no surprise that for our latest team social we spent the afternoon exploring Whampoa with former Sassy That Girl, Virginia Chan.
Virgina founded and has been running tour company Humid With a Chance of Fishballs in Hong Kong for the past few years, offering residents and visitors to the city the chance to see a side of Hong Kong that the guidebooks don’t tell you about. With group and personalised food tours to choose from, we opted for the signature Off-the-Eaten-Path foodie tour.
Sampling the five key flavours of Cantonese cuisine (salty, sour, bitter, sweet and spicy) at some of Whampoa’s finest local haunts was a great way to spend a humid Hong Kong afternoon, with Virginia sharing facts about Whampoa’s history along the way. We even got the chance to pay a visit to Hong Kong’s last remaining female Mahjong carver, Ho Sau-Mei.
