August sped by in the blink of an eye, and September crept up on us before we knew it! We’re not ready to say goodbye to summer just yet, so we’ve got a few more cool parties planned for the weekend. From live music to Hong Kong’s very own roller derby… there’s more than one place to enjoy the last of the summer vibes. It’s all here in this week’s Weekender!
Love vintage
For a spot of shopping this weekend, pop over to Little Square for The Yard Sale. There’ll be vintage finds as well as new and pre-loved fashion items at a fraction of the original price. Think Burberry, Louboutin, J. Crew and more! It’s sponsored by Sassy fave, Punch Detox too, so you know there will be tasty and healthy refreshments around! Spend more than $600 and you’ll get a 300ml Punch juice free, and if you spend $1,200, you’ll get a 500ml bottle of Punch juice. To make things even better, 10% of the proceeds go to Table for Two, a charity that helps supply healthy school meals to kids in China and Africa – definitely worth a donation.

Abso-woo-tely amazing
WOOBAR, the bar at the cool W Hong Kong, have got an all-star line up this weekend as part of their weekly Live Lab series. If you’re into your UK DJs, check out Doc Daneeka who’ll be spinning some bass and funky tunes, and Blackwax blending grime, funk and techno. Head over to Kowloon – trust us, it’ll be worth it – for a party you’ll never forget. Don’t forget to wear your dancing shoes…

Rolling in the deep
Who knew Hong Kong had its own roller derby?! We were excited to see something a bit different on the list of activities in the city(although let’s face it, we can’t complain with a trampoline park and bubble football on offer!). For those of you who remember the Drew Barrymore-directed movie Whip It, you’ll know that the intense skating at the roller derby is sure to give you an adrenaline rush! Want to try it out? Head over to The Hangout for The Hong Kong Roller Derby’s anniversary party, It’s Only Jam Rock N Roll where there will be live music from local bands. It’s the perfect opportunity to mix and mingle, do something different and have some fun – time to put those skating skills to the test!

A beast feast
We love a good market here at Sassy HQ, especially one that’s loaded with food, music and good times! Head down to one of our favourites, the Island East Market, this Sunday and indulge in some hearty sandwiches from new kids on the block, Bread & Beast. This newly launched local sandwich eatery serves up (you guessed it!) delicious sandwiches filled with slow-cooked meats and self-cured pickles. Definitely worth trying out for a Sunday lunch!

No longer Bloc-ked
It’s time to start a banquet! Okay, maybe not. But the very cool Kele Orekeke, lead singer of British band Bloc Party, will be hitting up Hong Kong this weekend. The UK native will be performing at Fly, and we’re expecting a seriously good performance!
