What's On HK

WEEKENDER: Jam-making workshop, Wingin’ It singles party, Shop des Createurs pop-up shop & more

21 June, 2013
The sun’s out and it’s time to do the things we love the most! Be it partying, indulging in something yummy or just spoiling ourselves silly with some retail therapy, we’ve got it all worked out for you in this week’s Weekender.

Rock to the rhythm
Working out in the gym or hiking down Dragon’s Back aren’t the only ways to get in shape this summer! With the right music, you can definitely work up a sweat dancing to the grooves… and with a fantastic mix of South American and African music for their Afro-Latino Noche Blanca Party, Salon de Ning at The Peninsula has prepped the perfect atmosphere for us (and it sounds a lot more fun than the gym too!). You can enjoy salsa, reggae, samba, zouk and many more electrifying beats, all spun by DJ Buck, so pick out your best all-white outfits (no flip-flops or shorts for guys either), get ready to dance and grab your girlfriends for an exotic night out!

When:
27 June, 9pm-2am
Where: Salon de Ning, The Peninsula Hong Kong, Salisbury Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong
How much: Free entry; RSVP to [email protected] or call 2696 6705

Just wing it – TONIGHT!
Forget Bridget Jones blubbing over weepie movies with a tub of Ben & Jerry’s… it’s time to party single-style instead! Wingin’ It is a fun night out at FLY designed to bring young, professional singletons together – but what’s extra special is that you have to bring a wingman (or woman!) of the opposite sex with you. So forget those parties where there’s about 2 blokes to every 100 women… this means there’s a good balance of both guys and girls, plus you can get extra help from the other side in the mysterious ways of the opposite sex! You’ll also get three complimentary drinks, free ZAVVA shots, a cheesy chat-up line photo booth (‘Did it hurt when you fell from heaven?!’) and fabulous prizes up for grabs, so bop to some top tunes and just wing it for a night!

When: 21 June, 8.30-11pm
Where: FLY, G/F, 24-30 Ice House Street, Central, Hong Kong
How much: $300 online, $400 at the door

Get jammin’
While fruits and vegetables are scrumptious fresh, it’s not the only way to get the best out of them! Instead of spreading store-bought jams, why not opt for some delectable homemade jams and pickles… plus an afternoon of fun too? Plantation (the latest creation from Teakha’s Nana) have teamed up with Paola from The Kitchen Nomads for a Jam-Making Workshop, where you’ll learn about fruit selection and pairing, preparation and safe home-canning, plus end the afternoon with a delicious afternoon tea gathering. You’ll also be able to bring home your new bottled creations (including vanilla and ginger, Earl Grey and peach, and seasonal tropical jams, plus cucumber sweet and sour pickle) to share with friends and family too… the perfect excuse for some picnics outings this summer!

When: 23 June, 3-6pm
Where: Plantation by TEAKKA, Shop B, No 1-4 Tai On Terrace, Sheung Wan, Hong Kong
How much: $450, RSVP to [email protected] or 3482 2660

Eat your words!
Everyone in Hong Kong is a foodie these days… but it’s time to put some of the city’s food writers to the test with Eat Your Words! They’ll be showing off their cooking skills with this special five-course dinner in aid of Foodlink – and you’ll get to judge them! Five food writers (including blogger queen Janice Leung and Sassy’s own Ale) will be teamed up with five of HK’s best chefs to cook up a storm, with the best team voted for by diners. There’s also a charity auction with a two-night staycation, a cooking class from The Salted Pig’s Jason Black and a date with Ale up for grabs (get ready boys!). Tickets are running out fast so snap some up ASAP!

When: 24 June, 7pm
Where: The Salted Pig, 2/F, The L Place, 139 Queen’s Road Central, Hong Kong
