WEEKENDER: GourMay, Angels for Orphans, Mini Giveaways and More!

4 May, 2012

So the weekend is here, faster than usual after the (very welcome!) mid-week public holiday. We’re guessing you are wondering what to do at such short notice… but never fear, Sassy is here with our top weekly events, sourced especially for you!

J’adore le français
The multicultural colours of Hong Kong and Macau are on show at the Le French May festival, in particular the historic marriage of the Hong Kong and French cultures. There is an array of activities encompassing fashion, food, music and theatre, which can all be experienced throughout the month of May. Most excitingly, for all you foodies, GourMay gives you a chance to indulge in French wines, gastronomy foods and special menus at various restaurants around the city, including Sassy faves Chez Patrick, Caprice, Spoon by Alain Ducasse and The Press Room (see all participating venues here). The food spectacular starts from the get go and runs throughout the entire month, so get your tasting palates ready and experience the best that the French have to offer!

When: Throughout May; see full programme here
Where: Throughout Hong Kong and Macau
How much: Prices vary; spend over $3000 in at least two of the participating restaurants to redeem 2 tickets to Le French May to the Balet de l’Opera National de Bordeaux

Charity meets fashion…
We love to give our readers the heads up on special events close to our heart and Angels for Orphans calls out for your support to join them at their first pop-up shop event, showcasing the Nude Is Rude resort-wear collection by Marisa Zeman. Don’t be fooled by the label’s name… it is a highly respectable event that will help raise awareness and money to improve the living conditions of the children in orphanages worldwide, plus you get a new beach-ready wardrobe!

When: 10 May, 5-8pm
Where: Nude Is Rude, No. 7 Lan Kwai Fong, Central, Hong Kong
How much: Free; profits from all Angels merchandise sold goes directly to Angels for Orphans

Get creative!
The whirlwind Discovery Bay Backyard Bazaar run by Handmade HK caters for all ages, with activities on hand sure to get you feeling creative! Although a fair distance away from the city, we promise it is definitely worth the trek! Unwind after the hectic day out at one of D Deck restaurants, and be sure to spend over $100 to receive a free ferry ticket home… talk about a bargain!

When: 6 May, 10am-5pm
Where: DB Plaza, Discovery Bay, Lantau Island, Hong Kong
How much: Free

It’s all about the French!
This Wednesday, the horse races get spiced up for the French Joie De Vivre at Happy Valley (wow now that’s a mouthful!), with all things francais… from music to food, wine and just about everything else too. If you are a wannabe Frenchie who loves the region or the real deal and just feeling a little homesick, you are bound to be impressed by the events that the night has to offer. Bon appetit to a delectable night ahead!

When: 9 May; first race 7:15pm, last race 10.15pm
Where: Happy Valley Racecourse, 2 Sports Road, Happy Valley, Hong Kong
How much: $10 entry fee to the racecourse; make your way to the beer garden for the French festivities!

Eat, shop, win!
Scrummy new Vietnamese joint Chom Chom offer a delicious chef’s dinner menu only on Fridays and Saturdays, so what better time to try and book a last-minute slot (or get ahead of yourself and book for next week!). You can also snag free shipping on some chic French fashion thanks to L’Exception (get the full scoop here) or check out what Team Sassy are lusting after so far this summer… but if freebies are more your style, we’ve got a few mini giveaways for you to enter, with a pair of tickets to A Taste Of LKF festival next weekend and some gorgeous Chiva-Som skincare goodies up for grabs too! Happy weekend girls!
