Top 5 Iced Desserts

13 July, 2010

Phew! For those of us brave (or foolish) enough to stay in HK this summer, here are a few icy suggestions to keep you cool when the temperature rises.

Waterside Terrace
8/F Island Shangri-La, Pacific Place – 2820 8580

If you’ve been to Singapore and Malaysia, no doubt you’ve seen or tried ice kachang – a mountain of fruit, nata de coco, jelly, syrup and shaved ice (pictured above). You can now enjoy this very cooling summer dessert at the tropical location of the Waterside Terrace until 28th September.

Yo Mama
6 Wing Fung Street, Wan Chai – 2865 5600; Shop 1061,IFC Mall, Central – 2547 5000; B1, city’super, Times Square, Causeway Bay – 2564 7000; Shop 404, Windsor House, 311 Gloucester Road, Causeway Bay – 2545 3999

One of the originals and the greats – especially now some of the branches stock their signature fro-yo made with Splenda instead of sugar. A guilt-free (well…nearly!) indulgence. We love their chewy mochi topping.

Happy Together Delicatessen
Shop 2, G/F, 5-6 Hau Fook Street, Tsim Sha Tsui – 2311 6078

Try the interesting combinations of desserts at this packed and lively joint in TST – think mango spring rolls, durian napoleon and humungous soufflés. Not strictly iced, but we love it anyway!

Azabusabo Tokyo
Shop F3, F5 & F7, Fashion Walk, 19 Great George Street, Causeway Bay – 2882 1582

Absolutely enormous iced Japanese-style treats in the heart of Causeway Bay. Their slushes are highly recommended and come infused with real Japanese ingredients like green tea and red bean. Their fruity options are very refreshing.

Lucky Dessert
Shop 5, G/F, Fu Tung Shopping Centre, Fu Tung Estate, Tung Chung – 2109 2366

If you’re out by Tung Chung, do stop by Lucky Dessert and try their durian pancakes, saving space for their chilled mango and pomelo soup which includes hearty chunks of fresh mango and a generous amount of pomelo. Yum.
