Sassy Scoop: Diary of a Circuit 25 Newbie + Sassy Deal

27 July, 2010

I am a Circuit25 newbie and this is my story…

It was a hot and very humid evening in July. My couch, air conditioner and a glass of wine were desperately calling my name but my mind was on the fact that my booty was feeling a tad too flabby for my liking. I had committed myself to do a free trial of Circuit25 (group personal training with a social emphasis) after hearing rave reviews about its founder Davide (below) and his trainers so on went my sneakers and I jetted out the door before I could think twice about calling in (achoo!) sick. The fact that Circuit25 doesn’t have any expectations of a high fitness level, and actually welcomes beginners and the unfit made me feel more comfortable about giving it a try.

The meeting point for class was on Bowen Road and they also have 3 other locations in Causeway Bay, Happy Valley and the Peak. I met my trainer Joe, a rugby player from Fiji, and all my nervousness was immediately put at ease when he told me about their “leave no one behind” approach to fitness. I also felt secure with the fact that he could easily pick me up and carry me with one arm if at any point I couldn’t run a step further!

So here is the down low on the workout. Circuit25 is an outdoor circuit group training class for all levels of fitness that includes 25 strength and resistance exercises and 25 minutes of cardio, core and cool down.  The whole idea is to get you outside of the gym and into the great outdoors. To keep things different and interesting the exercise routine or venue changes with each class. My class started on Bowen Road and ended in Hong Kong Park, which was a great diversion from the circuits that were banging my bum into tip-top shape. They also know that girls like to talk and chatting is highly encouraged. During my class it was not uncommon to hear conversations about people’s day during the run or even chatter about the best places to go around town while we were doing lunges. Now, this is what I call multitasking!

At the end, I left feeling as I had 50 minutes of an all over body workout and for all those who are wondering, I did have the glass of vino when I returned home. I felt fully justified in doing so after all my hard work!
