Iyara on Ship Street

19 February, 2010

I recently moved from the heart of Mid-Levels to what is technically called Mid-Levels East in our address, but which we know is really Wanchai! Since I moved I’m having to rediscover all the addresses that I usually would have headed into Central for, like food shopping, places to eat out and coffee shops. Until now, I was still going into Central regularly to get my nails done though, as I couldn’t think of a single place in Wanchai. Then I remembered to check out our City Guide section and reread through the places that Natalie had written up in her section on Pampering and decided to set out to find Iyara on Ship Street.

The Iyara in Central is a big Sassy favourite for their lovely pedicures and relaxing foot rubs, though we sometimes find that it can be hard to just drop in without an appointment, and that because they’re so busy, it can often take a long time to be finished. We’re happy to report that they’ve realized that their popularity has grown to the extent where they need to expand, so they’re actually taking over the shop next door to them as well, which used to be Siriporn. The new Iyara in Central should soon be twice the size.

The Iyara on Ship Street has a very similar decor to the one in Central, but a much more spa-like feel, with lots more space and a secluded location. You can see green trees through the windows, and as you sit on your comfortable chair, sipping your ginger tea and relaxing, it feels a world away from the hustle and bustle of Wanchai. You have to climb up some steep steps to reach it from Queen’s Road East, so I was huffing and puffing as I came through the door! The services on offer are pretty much the same as the Central branch, though they also have added a range of body scrub treatments which their larger premises make possible. From your basic mani-pedi, to body massages, threading and eyelash tinting, you can do it all here and the therapists are wonderfully friendly and warm.

The very best bit is that they’re just around the corner from Sift Bakery on Queen’s Road East, so after your treatment you can grab a little parcel of cupcakes to go – the ultimate indulgence for me! I know I’m going to be a regular there!
