Indulgence day spa in Central – time for a little indulgence…

4 October, 2012

Harrowed from a morning of running between meetings in the typical Hong Kong humidity, I was quite proud when I turned up early for my appointment at Indulgence day spa on Lyndhurst. Having scooted past it so many times, I was excited to finally be trying it out… except muggins here failed to do my research and they had actually moved to a new location tucked away on the third floor of a building on Queen’s Road Central! Thankfully, I was no more than two minutes away and on arriving at their swanky new surroundings, their spa manager, Kit graciously welcomed me, understanding the tribulations of my day and my need to be calmed, soothed and pampered.

I’m normally a hotel spa kind of girl. When I’m being pampered, I like facilities, saunas and relaxation rooms, but during a working week, that just isn’t practical. More often than not, it’s days like this when I’m flustered, overheated and stressed that my body is most in need of some downtime. And on this occasion, Indulgence was the perfect solution – a sprawling and tranquil spot with soothing modern white decor and incredibly helpful staff (they wouldn’t let me carry my own handbag, or should I say, suitcase, anywhere!).

Over the next 75 minutes, Carol, the senior beauty therapist, expertly carried out an Elemis Visible Brilliance facial. She understood my need to relax so explained the steps to me at the start, meaning I could drift into a meditative sleep during the facial itself. A world away from my rushed day, the facial was done gently and slowly, with attention to detail at every step and expert application. Cleansing, exfoliating, masks, moisturising; all the elements you have come to expect in a facial were there, but using fantastic products focused on hydrating my dry skin and banishing its dull tones. Meanwhile, the head and arm massages performed during the two mask applications successfully sent me to sleep. Only the extraction disturbed my peace but Carol had asked whether I wanted one and I had willingly signed myself up to banish those blackheads!

75 minutes later, I emerged another person, the best version of myself; my face was clear, glowing, supple and firm. I looked in the mirror and decided that make-up for my afternoon meetings could actually be forgone in favour of fresh-faced radiance!

However, there was the slight problem of my hair – humidity and a morning downpour had left it somewhat bedraggled. Asking when my next meeting was, Kit managed to squeeze me in for a wash and blow dry. It turns out that whilst the right hand side of Indulgence is treatment rooms focusing on massages and facials, there is a humongous beauty salon on the left specialising in manis, pedis, haircuts and treatments, tanning and waxing – a serious one-stop shop for beauty needs. Under the pressure of time, I had a speedy shampoo and then hair stylist Amy and her assistant successfully tamed my tresses in seven minutes flat. Seven minutes… Fancy that!

So, in a mere 90 minutes, I had been transformed from an exhausted energy-sapped stressed worker to a relaxed radiant preened and fresh-faced professional, ready to tackle the world one meeting at a time! And next time, when my schedule is less forgiving, I already have my eye on their express treatments, like a 40 minute facial including a head, neck and shoulder massage for only $520 – worth skipping lunch for and far more enjoyable, I reckon!

It’s rare to find a spa that understands the demands of our days and schedules but still manages to fully pamper and relax us in the (limited!) time that we can devote to a little bit of indulgence… I only wish I had been tempted to try Indulgence sooner.

The Elemis Visible Radiance Facial costs $990 for 75 minutes. A shampoo and blow dry with a stylist costs $250.
