Hotel Fort Canning, Singapore

17 January, 2011

Shopping heaven Orchard Road is 5 minutes’ walk away from the fashionable Hotel Fort Canning, the former admin building of the British Far East Command. Pitching itself as an “urban oasis meets heritage hotel”, we love the colonial-meets-contemporary look and mellow vibe.

Rooms and suites include furniture by acclaimed designer Poltrona Frau, and eco-friendly and lush bathroom goodies from THANN Spa in Thailand. Our favourite rooms have to be the Premier rooms, which are a little bit more spacious and still quite reasonable.

The hotel offers complimentary broadband and wireless internet and iPod docking stations, Nespresso coffee machines and customized pillow options. Along with the monsoon rain shower and bath tub, there are two mega-sized swimming pools and a range of dining options for epicureans. A modern Asian bistro and Italian/Mediterranean restaurant run by the Garibaldi Group are the two restaurants on site.

The hotel opened at the beginning of November, and unfortunately the THANN spa hasn’t opened yet, but this is definitely one to watch in 2011.

While you’re in Singapore, check out some of our favourite places including The White Rabbit for an “Alice in Wonderland” dining experience; Tanjong Beach Club which evokes a 60s mod vibe; and Front Row for all your sartorial needs.

From SGD 350 for a Premier Room (approximately HKD 2,100) per night.
