Fuel Espresso

After a few hours of Christmas shopping in the ifc on Saturday my feet needed a well deserved break and as we were heading to good ‘ole Starbucks (which is now in a new location) my husband quickly changed our route and declared that he was taking me to the best coffee place here in Hong Kong. This award was based on a friend of ours love for coffee and since I think she knows her stuff when it comes to a coffee bean I gladly followed to see what set it apart from the rest.

Fuel Espressso, situated on the 3rd floor of the ifc mall right across from the back entrance of Lane Crawford, has now officially become my new go to place for a relaxing coffee. While we didn’t actually get coffee (the hot chocolate seemed more in line with the holiday mood we were in so we couldn’t pass it up!) I have heard that this New Zealand based company serves up a really good cup and they seem to consistently get very good reviews online and in local publications (Time Out awarded it best coffee as well in 2009).

While some say Fuel’s location is not ideal I kind of like that it is tucked away from all the hustle and bustle of the mall. What I love about the location is that it is next to a new and improved Bookazine so during our shopping break we popped on over and picked up a magazine (as you can see I went straight for the gossip) to casually read while sipping on our hot chocolate.  They also have jazz music piping through the shop so the vibe is pretty chill and it was a really nice change of pace for me as I am not afraid to say that I have become a Starbucks groupie lately.

They don’t have a large food menu but they do serve cakes and cookies. We didn’t get any ourselves but they looked very good and I was quite tempted so perhaps round two will have me taste testing their delicious looking sweets.
