From China with Love: Shanghai Tang Autumn/Winter 2011

26 August, 2011

Ah, Shanghai Tang. You are making us want to skip right through the rest of this oh-so-hot summer to dive right into the delicious cool of Autumn/Winter. Not only that, but your latest ad campaign has me wanting to book the next flight to Beijing (not the easiest thing in the world as I don’t generally love the city) to stride around the Forbidden City in a qípáo… The glamour!

Using the super-luxe fabrics which are one of Shanghai Tang’s signatures (silk, shearling, cashmere), the Treasure Chest collection is inspired by China’s diverse culture, from the riches of the historic silk road to the craftmanship of ethnic minorities. The rich autumnal colours of the Autumn/Winter line are inspired by the brilliant hues of Qiang and Miao tribal costumes as well as the traditionally Islamic colours from Xinjiang province.

Well, at least that’s the PR spiel. All we know is we WANT THAT BAG (above). Um, and maybe the coat too while we’re at it.

Starring actress Lin Chiling and shot by renowned photographer Chen Man, this is definitely the most visually compelling campaign we’ve seen from the brand….

We’re always a little biased towards showing womenswear on Sassy, but we’ve made a rare exception below for actor Hu Bing, who, let’s face it, is a bit of a hottie.

We might still be in mourning for the fact that the Pedder Street Store will be closing, but the signs for Autumn/Winter show that Shanghai Tang is still going strong!
