Dooney and Bourke F/W ’11

8 September, 2011

All right ladies, let’s talk bags. I am sure you have your go-to clutches for evening and your high-end bag for the office, but what about that “go-anywhere goes-with-everything stuff-it-to-the-max” everyday bag? No? Well, not to worry.  I have a few here that just may pique your interest!!

Introducing the Dooney and Bourke Autumn/Winter 2011 collection!  Founded in Connecticut by Peter Dooney and Frederic Bourke, this American company has been going strong since 1975.  Thirty-six years later they are still turning out beautiful on-trend bags. This collection features durable Italian leather, supple lambskin, patent leather, and a festive red tartan!

Shirt, Skirt, Sunglasses, Watch, Ring, BagShoes

My first pick of the collection is the small brown leather satchel (it also comes in black and an olive/brown combo). This gives the Mulberry Alexa a run for its money as the hipster chic bag of choice. The long cross body strap makes this bag a winner for weekend trips to cities that require a lot of walking (i.e. Tokyo, Seoul, New York). You can fit a small DSLR in it, along with any maps, and zip it up tight knowing all is safely stored. With multiple inside pockets for stashing phone, lip-gloss, and all your other essentials, everything is kept perfectly organized! The aroma of the leather is intoxicating and looks even better with a bit of wear, so don’t be afraid to really use this bag.

Bag, Sunglasses, Dress, Jacket, Necklace, Shoes

My next top choice is the drawstring bucket bag. It is a throwback to the 70’s and, with all things vintage making a showing this season, this bag is on point! Pair with a flowy floral dress and a denim jacket or olive anorak for an easy summer-to-fall transition. I’ve chosen a Barbour jacket – also a true classic!

Let’s close our eyes and harken back to another era…. The 90’s! A time when crossbodies and backpacks ruled! The D&B mini flap croco crossbody will take you back in style and comes in gorgeous tones like bordeaux, burnt orange, and olive (featured above).  A simple piece that goes great with jeans and a button down, it leaves you hands-free for running errands. My other 90’s fave is the backpack. These are done in a hearty, durable leather and have an adorable toggle closure. There is also a tartan backpack! I can almost hear the Clueless theme song now.  Wasn’t Cher a vision in plaid?

Other notable picks include the croco luggage, which makes any journey a little more luxurious, and the extra large black Juliette bag. I just wish I had a convertible to throw this bag into the back of and head out into the sunset for a weekend adventure! Any takers? The two-tone lambskin shopper is great for an afternoon away or for hitting the outlets of Ap Lei Chau.

So there you have it. You now have a vast variety of everyday grab-and-go bags to complete every closet creation you can dream of. I think these are worthy of a special trip to Macau! There you can end your night with a little Macanese food and a round at the roulette tables. Who knows?  You may just be a big winner!! Whatever the wheel says, carrying one of these beauties will make you feel like you have already won big!
