Ditch the digitial at Sense of Touch!

1 April, 2014

Put your mobile phone down. Surrender your tablet. Step away from the computer.

We realise some of you will find the idea of being ‘unplugged’ daunting, but in a city where people seem to be constantly connected, there really is no better way to relax than kicking technology to the curb (for a little while, at least)…

In a bid to help Hong Kong urbanites disconnect from their devices, Sense of Touch recently launched a new Digital Detox Programme. To quickly sum it up, the package begins with a detox yoga session, followed by a therapeutic detox massage; a one-day juice cleanse and detoxified hair care set are also included to allow you to continue the detox beyond the two-hours at the spa.

Designed to help rejuvenate and balance the mind and body, I recently unglued the iPhone from my hand to experience the new offering.

yoga class in park
My detox got underway at 11am at Sense of Touch’s Repulse Bay branch. After being greeted with a warm ginger & lemon tea, I made my way with four other girls to the private courtyard where the group yoga class was to be held. The detox vinyasa flow session began with breathing and voice cleansing exercises to rid lung tissue of carbon dioxide, stimulate digestive organs and loosen the diaphragm. All poses included in the session worked to stimulate circulatory, digestive and lymph systems which help the body in its quest to cleanse and detox. The open-air session was enjoyable and catered for a range of abilities.

SOT - Massage
Already well on my way to feeling relaxed and revived, I relocated indoors for the detoxifying massage treatment. Using juniper oil (which is famed for its detoxifying properties), the lymphatic drainage massage is tailored to release toxic build-up in sluggish digestive, circulatory and lymphatic systems, as well as boost blood and lymph circulation. The treatment was heavenly to say the least – I didn’t want it to end!

SOT - Genie Concept

Upon wrapping up at the spa, I was given the six cold-pressed juices needed to complete the one-day Genie Concept cleanse. Receiving the juice at this point was slightly annoying as to complete the juice cleanse properly, it’s recommended you drink your first one at 9am, followed by the rest of the juices in their numbered order every two hours following (9am – 11am – 1pm – 3pm – 5pm – 7pm). I recommend contacting the Sense of Touch team to see if your juice can be sourced earlier, to allow you to have it from the very start of the day of your Digital Detox.

SOT - Cleansing Purifying Scrub

The Christophe Robin hair care gift set – containing a luxurious cleansing and purifying scrub and a regenerating mask – was a real cherry on top. Formulated with a range of vegetable-based active ingredients, both products were a treat to use at home and worked to give my hair a decent dose of oomph and TLC.

All in all, it was a fabulous treat which left me feeling upbeat and recharged (in the least technological sounding way possible)!

The Digital Detox Programme costs $1,680 (two-hours) and is available at scheduled times (until June) at Sense of Touch Repulse Bay (Moroccan-Colonial Style Spa) and Sense of Touch Tseung Kwan O (Hong Kong’s only Balinese Villa Style Spa).
