Dining the day away in Sheung Wan

12 August, 2010

Our friends at Quintessentially have the coolest office right in the middle of Sheung Wan and today they are giving us the inside scoop on some of their favourite places to go for breakfast, lunch and dinner in the area.

Though Sheung Wan is a little off the beaten track, there are plenty of restaurants, cafes and small eateries that you might never think to check out, so here’s our take on how to eat a day away in Sheung Wan.

Segafredo Zanetti Espresso Bar
71-77 Wing Lok Street, Sheung Wan, +852 2850 6332
What better way to start the day than with one of Segafredo’s deliciously smooth coffees? If you’re looking for sugary, flavoured and whipped cream confections, you better go elsewhere – but if you appreciate a balanced blend with a rich aroma then Segafredo is where you’ll find it. Say hi to the lovely Ray for us when you’re there!

Wing Fu Fruit
81 Wing Lok Street, Sheung Wan, +852 2815 6429
Wing Fu’s freshly cut fruit and fruit juices are very reasonable the quality is good – try their mixed fruit salad. We also like the fact the shop is super clean. A small fruit salad costs HKD 13, while a large, freshly-squeezed OJ will set you back HKD 12. The sign isn’t in English but it’s almost directly opposite exit A2 of the Sheung Wan MTR.

Monsieur Chatte
121 Bonham Strand, Sheung Wan, +852 3105 8077
This gourmet French deli sells delicious and generously-sized salads and platters of French goodies which we like to treat ourselves to at lunch. Pick up a duck salad for HKD 55 and then catch the rays in the concrete “park” next to Costco Tower. If you’re feeling particularly decadent, then their baguettes and selection of cheese is excellent too.

Bonjour Bakery
67 Wing Lok Street, Sheung Wan
It’s now mid-afternoon and you need some sugar to ward off the 4pm slump. Head to Bonjour where a half loaf of their banana bread (HKD 15) will hit the spot. Experience has taught us the best time to go is in the afternoon when the loaves are fresh and warm from the oven…we’ve even been known to chow down the lot in one afternoon!

Fusion Gourmet
1/F, The Pemberton, 22-26 Bonham Strand, +852 2545 0068
Combining the relaxed atmosphere of a deli with contemporary comfort food staples (think pastas, steaks, roast chicken and pork chops) they also serve a mean cup of Kona coffee and delicious desserts. Their tiramisu is divine.
