Best Burgers in Hong Kong

28 April, 2011

There’s nothing like a good burger – juicy, full of flavour, and if we’re totally honest, just erring on the side of not-too-healthy. In addition to HK favourites Triple O’s and Gourmet Burger Union, here are concierge expert Quintessentially’s picks of the best in Hong Kong.

BLT Burger Shop OT301-301A, 3/F, Ocean Terminal, Harbour City, 17 Canton Road, Tsim Sha Tsui
2730 2338 www.bltburger.com/

This American import, which is also the sister restaurant to BLT Steak, is a tribute to the beautiful simplicity of a juicy burger served straight up. There are a few unusual twists on the menu, including the Canton Road (pork and shrimp burger with plum sauce) and Buffalo Chicken (fried chicken with hot sauce). Milkshakes run the gamut from your plain Jane strawberry, chocolate and marshmallow to Campfire Marshmallow (vanilla and marshmallow) and the spiked Grandma’s Treat (bourbon, caramel and vanilla ice cream).

Shake’em Buns UG/F, 76 Wellington Street, Central
2810 5533 www.shakembuns.com/

We’re sad that our favourite branches in Causeway Bay and Wanchai have closed but lucky for us, there’s still one Shake ‘em Buns standing. The risqué names are a bit cheesy (Cushin’ for the Pushin’ or a Philly Willy anyone?) but the burgers are made from quality ground beef with a lovely, meaty taste.

The Steak House Winebar + Grill LG, InterContinental Hong Kong, 18 Salisbury Road, Tsim Sha Tsui
2313 2323 www.hongkong-ic.intercontinental.com/dining/steak_house.php

Hong Kong’s most luxurious burger is served at InterContinental Steakhouse. We take our 12oz US Angus beef burger glammed up with foie gras – delish! If the mood strikes you and your hubbie/partner/friend, then go big with a devil hug beef burger (it weighs in at 35oz and can feed two people). The InterContinental’s LED menu and choice of eight rock salts, 12 mustards and 10 knives make this a true gourmet experience.

Blue Smoke Bar-B-Que 3/F, Grand Progress Building, 15-16 Lan Kwai Fong Central
2816 9018

We love the Americana feel of Blue Smoke and have written about it before. But we particularly love the burgers here – oversized giants, a little bit messy to eat, but totally worth it. Succulent, tender and moreish. Fries have to be ordered separatelt.

Inn Side Out G/F, Sunning Centre, 10 Sunnin Road, Causeway Bay
2895 2900 www.elgrande.com.hk/

This is the quintessential sports bar – peanut shells on the floor and large TVs showing ESPN. The menu tempts with its unhealthiness and mostly consists of enormous portions of American comfort food – cheesy fries, wings, ribs and of course, burgers.

Burgeroom 7 Caroline Hill Road, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong
2890 9130

This tiny restaurant and burger joint has developed quite a reputation thanks to its selection of seafood, fish, chicken, duck, veggie and traditional beef burgers. The double decker beef burger is only for those with eyes as big as their stomachs!
